First, I need to express that I am massively overwhelmed. My other site (coderanch) needed two days of my attention. And then there are lots of things going on with my permie stuff. Hundreds of things are getting quickly shuffled into priorties. And, frankly, every day dozens of things are needing to get done and not addressed by me.
Next up - if anybody has questions about stuff on this site, it is a big help to ask here. A lot of times, one of the other admins can answer your questions.
As for deleting stuff: yes, I'm always deleting stuff. Usually, one of the other admins will point something out and ask me if it should be deleted. They are generally really good at spotting something that should be deleted. If you quote something objectionable, there is a good chance that your post will also be deleted. If you want your stuff to survive, it is probably best to not quote icky stuff.
If you see something objectionable, please click on "report to moderators". There have been a couple of people that have done that, I popped over for a quick peek and thought "Yeah, I don't want to publish that." - deleted.
When posts are deleted, the author is not notified. Mostly because every author thinks their stuff is gold, and, therefore, anybody who deletes it is a dumbass. And as much as it might be true that I'm a dumbass, it doesn't save me much time to hear all about it.
Usually the stuff I delete has one sentence that bothers me - so the whole post is deleted. Often times, it is the very first sentence. It might say something like "that's a stupid thing to say" - and that's enough. Saying that somebody said something stupid is suggesting that that person might be less than perfect. So - poof! It's gone!
The other admins are making threads hidden so I can look them over. So if you see a thread disappear and then reappear later - that's what's going on.
Which leads me to: I really appreciate folks trying to keep things in my comfort zone. If I end up deleting too much from one person, then it really gets to be a lot easier to just ban that user.
Finally, I would like to remind folks that I don't like the PM feature on the forums. Please don't send me a PM. My email address is easy to find - if you really must contact me privately, please send me an email instead. I can do email much faster than PM stuff. Plus email works into my overall triage strategy, while PM stuff does not. So PM stuff often ends up never being answered.
