I am looking at a nice property; the barn is perfect... but the house is Amish (strict Amish)... there is no electricity or central heat system.   Has anyone gone through an major upgrade of an otherwise modern home?

Thank you

Yep. I upgraded. First, and most expensive is the source of electricity. That's usually in the thousands of dollars. Then, is getting it to the outlets, which a single floor with a walk in basement and no insulation in the walls is pretty easy. It gets more complicated when you branch out from that. The electrical"plumbing" in a house varies in cost based on this and, of course, the cost of fixtures. Of course, being you get to choose your energy type, you could try alternative energies. Good luck!

How big was the Amish house you added electricity and plumbing to?  Did it have an upper floor?  How many bathrooms did you add to the house?  What was the final cost to install electricity and plumbing and what year did you do this?   Were the city/town easy to work with for permits?  How did all this reflect in your property taxes?  What state was all this done in?
