chicken hybrids - infertile eggs?

Our neighbour said that hybrids produce infertile eggs.
Our rooster is a Barnevelder and we have the usual Isa Browns (which are hybrids). Is it true that these eggs are infertile? We have a Barnevelder chicken too, but she's fasten than the rooster and we tried to hatch one egg which wasn't fertile. We're getting four polish and I don't know if they would make fertile eggs with the Barnevelder. Would be a strange cross anyway.

well in terms of plants, a hybrid will re-produce just fine if you've got a pollinator(rooster)..
Being a hybrid means the results will be less predictable, ie your chicks will exhibit all sorts of characteristics..
but I would think if you have a rooster then he will fertilize your hybrid hens eggs..

This rooster does not manage to fertilize the eggs of his breed, I'm not too sure about the others because barnevelders are lighter than these fat Isa Brown ladies.

The confusion is in the use of the word 'hybrid'. 

Your neighbour is using the word to mean a cross between two different species.  A mule is a hybrid, being a cross between a horse and a donkey/burro.  Mules are pretty well always infertile.

Barnevelders, Isa Browns, and 'Polish' chickens are all chickens, all the same species.  Barnevelders and Polish are both true breeds of chicken and will breed true to type.  Isa Browns are 'hybrid' in the sense than they are produced by crossing different breeds of chickens, so they won't 'breed true', but they will still breed. 

We  have a bantam cross cockerel (it's all we could get - we're working on it...) running with our Isa Browns, and their eggs hatch just fine.  We get a motley bunch of reasonable layers and slow-growing, not very meaty broilers from them, but they're better than nothing.

Thanks! Barnevelder Isa Brown cross might be nice. We are not too much interested in having more Isa Browns, reliable layers, but not the prettiest birds.

Actually six out of seven eggs hatched and the only one which didn't hatch was pure breed! Maybe the rooster regards her as a sister or the rooster does not find her attractive (she's the prettiest bird we have) or she's simply quicker.
The step mummy takes her job very serious.

not every egg will always be fertile.  or if fertile not all eggs will hatch.  if eggs are kept over 7 days the hatchability takes a nose dive,,,and quick.  if you hatched 6 outa 7,,,you should pat yourself on the back.  i believe a rooster will have a favorite hen.  but he isnt that partial.  he cares not for looks.  if its a hen and living,  hes treading her.
