Our 2 geese just started laying about a month ago. We had gotten 2 eggs a day at times so we thought we had 2 females. Now one has gone broody. Will they go broody without being bred? Or can they lay more than one egg a day?

Thank you! As of yet, we have never seen the other goose go in to lay an egg, but it could before we let it out. Another weird thing, our drake duck has sometimes tried to breed the broody goose, before she went broody, but has never tried to breed the other one? They are Toulouse, and one is slightly bigger than the other.
I'd guess you have two females, and, yes, a goose will go broody and sit on unfertilized eggs. You'll know she's sitting in earnest when she lines the nest with her own down.
I've got a Muscovy drake who regularly (and rather crudely) at least attempts to breed my Toulouse female while she's sitting on the nest. Birds are odd at times.
if you are good, then when you die, you will get seasons 2-10 of firefly - tiny ad
