I just inherited an old pitcher pump. It needs one bolt but works fine otherwise. My issue is with all the grease and grime on it . as far as i know it hasn't been used in the past twenty years and has knocked around garages and barns sense it was decommissioned. There is a lot of visible grease and grime on it . knowing my family someone could have lubed it with axle grease or worse.... so my question is what would i use to clean it up like new?
should i remove the gasket before i use the a cleaner? lastly what should be used for a lubricant on a pump that i and my friends will be drinking out of ?
