Paul, I wanted to let you know that the strange session timed out notices are occurring more often to me now, and in addition I'm getting you've already posted, or maybe doubled clicked - when posting for the first time.  So I go into preview and then click save to get around this road block.  The last few times I've click to quote someone I was taken to the message page with their post, but no quote tags around it = strange.  And the last time I tried this the same thing happened so I decided to go back and try again, when I clicked to go back it took me back to the thread but the person post I was quoting was gone!  I PM them apologizing and haven't tried quoting since.  And yes - I clicked quote and not delete, because I was taken to the new massage page with their post in the text field box!

The strangeness is happening more often and is becoming more strange.  I don't know if you remember back in the fall when I first emailed you after the move to the new host about session time outs, where I would have to submit a post two times to have it go through.  Well back then it was only happening occasionally, now it's fairly regular.

You said back then that no one else was having any troubles, but I cannot understand how I could be the only one when it started after the changes.... I didn't mind about the session time outs, but this other stuff is really messed up.

So just FYI

P.S. I just clicked on modify and got this message: Session verification failed. Please try logging out and back in again, and then try again.  I went back and clicked on modify again and was taken to the modify/edit page - strange, strange, strange.  BTW: I've never received this error message before.

Let's see if I can duplicate the problems.

What is your o/s and browser?

I'm using windows 7 and firefox 3.6.13

Is anyone else experiencing these problems?  Or not experiencing these problems?

Windows 2000 Professional Edition VM (virtual machine)  - Firefox 3.6.13  Same as I've been using since I signed up as a permie.  Only time I've had strangeness is after you changed hosts.

Thanks for your help,

Why a VM?  Do you mean you are running the VM on linux or a mac?

I'm running this VM on Windows XP right now, but the VM isn't the problem as I have the same issues when using straight XP and Firefox.

No, I'll try that out tomorrow.  Do you think it's FireFox then?

At this point I think it has something to do with the mix of your computer and firefox.  Like, maybe there is something running in the background of your computer that confuses firefox on something.

My use has been rock solid.

For me to be able to fix it, I first need to be able to duplicate it.

I asked if anyone else was having problems like this and nobody said anything.  So it is possible that it is just your setup.  But I'm willing to consider that this same problem is happening to 10% of the users, but you're the only one that has reported it so far.

I have had a similar error message (timed out) a couple of times.

But I can't remember if it was here on CP ??

So I'm not much help at all.

The permies forum software is set for 60 minutes of inactivity.
Seconds before an unused session timeout = 3600

Just had the posting problem.  Won't let you post unless you preview first.  I got the 60 second post error message.

Using Firefox 3.6.13.

Oddly, that time it worked.

Now this one is doing it again. Ha!  So much for thinking it worked.  3 minutes and counting.  4 minutes. 5, 6

Would anybody like some fudge? I made it an hour ago. And it goes well with a tiny ad ...
