Hi
Is there a place I can ask for tech support? I seem to be able to post, but not upvote anyone. Not sure when that changed, or why. Could use help trying to unsnarl it.
Thanks!

Just nothing. Like I didn't click at all.  And in replying to this, I found out I can do "post reply" but not "quick reply." Really bizarre.

Can you please tell more about your device and software? For example, are you on a desktop computer? laptop? tablet? android? iphone?

And what software do you use to log into permies? Chrome? firefox? internet explorer? safari?

I'm on a Win 7 laptop, running Pale Moon as my browser (Pale Moon is a Firefox variant, most systems see it as Firefox.) I could upvote last time I noticed, I just noticed this a day or two ago. And apparently I can edit posts, although not quick reply.

it says YES
I was trying to think how long it's been since I rebooted this beast. I'll try that.
And, unknown if it's related, if I read a thread, need to login to reply, after I login, it bounces me to the main forum page, not back to where I was, which I don't recall being an issue before.
Let me try rebooting this  beat. Watch this space.

Fixing the computer while eating breakfast... whee

Ooo that sounds tricky! Do you have another browser? Like Chrome? Can you log in to your permies account from another browser and see if it works alright there?

After 2 reboots:
Had to adblock one graphic here, something from permaculturemag.org. just a picture. Site was not loading and that was the hang up.

Still can't upvote. Still can't quick reply. Can post reply, after logging in it returns me to where I was.
Weird.
This computer is running oddly too. I have been really sick and not paying attention. Acts like half it's RAM has taken a powder.
Gah.
A bit too sick to figure it out. If you have any advice, I'd love it, if you don't, I'll assume it's my hardware, and thank you nicely for your time. Something is a mess here.

Let's not assume the problem is at your side this soon - let alone whether it's your hardware

I think the best thing we can do for now is to see things work right on another browser - just like I asked:

Can you please try that out?

Apologies, I didn't see your post till I had hit submit
On another login on the same machine, different version of Pale Moon, I don't seem to have any other browsers on this laptop anymore. I think I tossed Chrome for space reasons, as I hate it and won't use it.
I can quick reply, AND upvote!
It's an old version, running badly, and it too is hanging up on the permaculturemag.org thing, but I have no blocker on it to stop it. So let me go back to my usual one, and see if it needs updating or something. I did update it recently, and it was a major upgrade (that I didn't want, I really don't get along with "modern" browsers) possibly this is a known bug... Watch this space...

It must be too bad that I never heard of pale moon before you mentioned it.

So you are saying that things work all good in an old version of pale moon, but not in the latest version, right?

With all my addons disabled, I can upvote etc...
Ok. Now I have a chance.
Something's not working with the new version. I HATE updating. Wish they'd just leave it alone and give me security updates only. If you know of a decent browser that does that, please tell me. This one did that when I first got it, but they have become like the rest "But it HAS to be able to input text right to left!" and it turns to bloat. Bah.
Let me see what I can figure out here.

What was the last time you had trouble with chrome? I used to hate chrome as it was sucking too much memory just to keep tabs alive. But that was several years ago. Right now, chrome works all good for me. Maybe they have upgraded their memory stuff recently.

Ok. so. If I disable my adblocker, I can upvote. But, if I disable it, that permaculturemag.org thing locks it up. Interesting mess.

Pale Moon started as a Firefox knock off when Firefox changed seriously a few years ago. I had always liked Firefox, but their new version just annoyed me to no end, so I found Pale moon, which was basically Firefox Classic. Like I said, now they are offending a lot of their user base by changing to "we are a cool up to date browser!!" which is what a LOT of us didn't want. Chrome wasn't using too much memory, I didn't use it, tried it once or twice, didn't like it, went back to Pale Moon. I was running out of just gigs of storage space on this machine (which I never intended to do with it what I have done) so I went through and purged all the programs I don't use, just for storage space.
I'm afraid I have a bad case of hating things to upgrade past what I need, my main desktop isn't allowed online at all these days because it's still got XP on it, and a huge pile of really nice graphics programs I'm not willing to give up. When my life settles down (messy, messy multi-year move going on here) I'll see what I can do with it, but right now, laptop it is. And I hate win 7 that it runs I swear they keep dumbing computers down to the point of nonfunctional.  Guess I'm just an old school geek.

Sorry for rant. Any guesses how to block that permaculturemag.org thing without using my adblocker? or debug it? It seems to be just a picture hosted by them that doesn't load. I think it was the picture for a thread on neurodiversity, that was coming up in my recommended threads.

Oh good lord. Looked at that picture, it's just flat huge. No wonder I'm gakking on it.
I think I downloaded too much the other day, and my connection got speed throttled, probably why I can't load it.
Well. THAT could be my issue.
Maybe if I read a few other things, and cycled that one off my recommend list...
The thumbnail pic for the article above it is  30.19 KB (30,910 bytes) scaled to 170x 128 px
The one that's being a problem is
4,608px × 3,456px (scaled to 690px × 517px) and it seems to be loading the whole huge graphic.

Well, if you have pie, you can disable all ads on permies site without an ad blocker.  All you have to do is go to your pie options and choose "Turn off banner ads". You have to have pie before you can do this.

(I'm not sure about where permaculturemag.org comes from)

It's not a banner ad, it's just a picture thumbnail for a thread. Now that I know what the issue is, I can try to rotate it off my queue.

I'm way too sick today to have enough IQ for this....

THANK YOU for your help!!
I curtsy nicely at you

When it's on the bottom of the page in the Similar Threads, the thumbnail is not actually a thumbnail, it loads the whole thing, I think. Or at least a huge thumbnail.
