Dug up a little over 50 callery pear seedlings today under a very fertile tree at an abandoned homesite.
Pear rootstock runs the minimum of $2.15 each when purchasing in bulk.
Will the rootstock preform as good as named cultivars of rootstock? Who knows but it's free.
In a mass planting of a few thousand
trees into an eventual source of late summer/ early fall forage for farm animals and people alike. I think I'll take the chance, as I'm anticipating only really needing a few hundred trees planting 5x 10x of everything on what I anticipate needing.
