I'm interested in growing high oleic varieties of sunflower or safflower for an oil crop. Where would I obtain such seeds? Do they exist as heirloom varieties, or only as modern hybrids?

You could try these guys:  http://www.safflowertech.com/projects.html

I think if you looked around a bit, there would be some seed exchanges that may have heirlooms, but you may have to just start out with a hybrid and re-select from that.  I'm not sure what the standard test is for the higher oleic content.....can't help you there.  Good luck!

I believe Black Oil Sunflower seeds contain high levels of oleic acids.
