@Steve Boyd - Hahaha!  While I was in the midst of composing my most recent post, you snuck in a post with half of the same advice.  Well played, good sir ; )

Good to know! I will need to beg or buy good named variety cuttings if I can find someone in Europe with some. Which variety do you recommend?

A good question.  It is currently the season to harvest goumi berries where I live, so I will pay attention and get back to you with an opinion.

Matthew Nistico wrote:Okay, getting to the OP's original question, there are many, many tools that you will eventually want in order to run a small homestead.

Matthew, thanks so much for such a long, well-thought-out reply. It's very appreciated! Interestingly many of the things you suggest are already on my list or items I've found highly useful in the past on other properties but forgot to add to my list! And seeing specific brand recommendations is super-helpful for me.

I'd also love to know your (and other growers) goumi variety recommendations. I suspect in Europe it might be a case of using whatever I can get, but if possible, I'd prefer to start with a known good variety. I do have enough space that I can plant a bunch along the fenceline, then propagate only the better ones.

I knew I would regret that burrito. But this tiny ad has never caused regrets:
