Harvesting chickens that you have raised is tough. I am unsure at this point if it ever gets any easier but it is part of homesteading in my mind.

I had a few cockerels that I dispatched via cervical dislocation. I had to learn how to do it via video/online instead of an in person demonstration. In hindsight, I think I would of benefited by working with someone who has done it before.

For someone who is new to the process, I would highly recommend taking the time to think through the process fully. When you put the process into action, dedicate to it. Keeping the animal calm and out of pain has been my top priority.

After the fact, give yourself a little grace and feel your feelings. It is all part of the process.
