essential oils for soaps

I need more ideas for using essential oils with healing or specific properties. A favorite scent I have found is Fennel, reportedly the scent gives courage and strength. Tea tree oil is a given in the collection as well as lavender for its calming effects.

I have some I like although they probably have little medicinal properties.

well I put everything on hold when we moved so right now I am only selling to freinds and a few aquaintences!

I am trying to get the tax stuff all sorted out now for two different states since we will be on the border of arkansas and oklahoma.

A great book about the healing qualities of various EOs is Ayurveda & Aromatherapy by Light and Bryan Miller. There is also info. about what other EOs each one blends well with.
By the way, if you like fennel and you like lavender, as you mentioned, try them as a blend in soap. Lovely.
(I make soaps, shampoo bars, "solid lotion," healing balms, shaving soap, natural roll-on scents and toothpowder.)

I've mentioned this elsewhere, but I think the history of Listerine is worth mentioning here.

Its active ingredients are essential oils. It contains some alcohol, but not enough to do much in the way it's used, only enough to keep the oils dissolved.

It was invented as a disinfectant for surgical equipment, and only started being used as a mouthwash later on.

All of which to say: EOs are often recognized by mainstream medicine for their safety and effectiveness. AFAIK, Listerine remains unique in its status among mouthwashes: the FDA allows language on a Listerine label that would be considered misleading if applied to other products.

All that said, I don't use mouthwash, and think it's a better product for scalpels than for incisors...I just think it's an interesting story.

Wow, that is interesting, Joel. It sounds like Listerine pre-dates prescription drug profiteering (or the ilk) and so that's how the FDA allows the labeling.

Both the germ-theory of Western medicine and prescription drug profits (maybe even over-the-counter drug advertising and profits, too) have obliterated a lot of holistic remedies...like essential oils.

When was the last time an M.D. recommended rubbing clove oil on a baby's gums to help with teething pain? It's always those pain gels, analgesics or crap like that.

Mmm, clove-scented soap! That would feel warming and spicy on a cold winter morning! Hope you've found a good EO source, Leah. (Maybe not for right now, but later...)
