mildew on black locust?

I built a black locust clothes drying rack.  The black locust
was a little dry, but not entirely.  I figured it was safe to use
because of the anti-fungal properties locked into black locust.

I was wrong.

I peeled some clothes off of it today.  Yes:  peeled is the right
word.  They were sticking.  And it looks like some sort of mildew is
acting as a bit of glue.

I'm surprised at the mildew.  i would think that even if it was
wet, mildew would be impossible with black locust.

How can this be?  I could understand mildew on most woods, but I thought I would never see mildew on black locust. 

I wonder if it's resistant properties only apply to cured wood?  If the moisture interfered with it's drying, maybe there was a kind of chemical conflict there.

was the mildew only where the clothes were? if so i would guess that the mildew was on the clothes which happened to be making contact with the wood. Best thing to do is set it in direct sun for a while (if you have any )

The wood was pretty thoroughly covered with wet clothes.  So it's hard to tell if the mildew came from the clothes. 

I'm gonna peel the logs a bit and then set them over the wood stove to get dryer.

I haven' t had the best of luck drying clothes on racks for similar reasons. They have to spread out alot and you can't create a "cave" with clothes. hanging on a line gives plenty of air circulation. I Only dried my clothes this way when my dryer broke. It was only a short time because My dh clothes came back in from the laundry line dirtier then when he threw them in the basket ! he figured a new dryer could be worked into the budget after that. I'm spoiled with the soft ,non dusty or pollen laden or animal hair and bird poop covered clothes.  Darnit, those commercials with the little kid playing hide and seek in the clothes on the line and the happy mom shaking out towels and folding them were a bit misleading 

I have a couple of commercial drying racks.  They work great.  I put stuff near the fire and it's dry in a day or two. 

So my craziness is with the idea of improving on things.  I think that if I have the clothes higher and nearer the fire that they will dry faster.  So I tried to make something ....

oh! I just pictured them in room temp/outdoor situation. hmmmm. I could go crazy with ideas on a woodstove drying rack......picturing something hanging from the ceiling.....circular , on tracks like a rack in the dry cleaners jsut for fun ..... oops sorry I guess I'm starved for achievable projects.

You could hang a ladder-like contraption above the stove.

My small wood stove is in the corner, and I run some lines from wall to wall to form a clothesline.

Just be careful that nothing falls on the hot stove, or it would be a real fire hazard.
