This is a badge bit (
BB) that is part of the
PEP curriculum. Completing this BB is part of getting the
straw badge in
Electricity and
Plumbing
In this Badge Bit, you will install a control system and secondary pump for a cistern. Cisterns are great if you don't have a high capacity well. Or any well and have to get
water delivered. But drinking from a long straw gets old. Let's put a pump and control system on that cistern!
To complete this BB, the minimum requirements are:
- perform the installation of a pump to move water from a cistern into your domestic water supply piping
- potable water
- pressure controlled with a pressure tank
Points vary from 4-8 points for Electrical and 4-8 points for Plumbing
- 4 points for a standard-ish system with a cistern, pump, pressure tank, circuit breaker and control mechanism to keep from running the pump dry
- Up to 8 total points for complicated or elegant systems that required much more work (this is unlikely to be awarded often)
To show you've completed this Badge Bit, provide proof of the following as pics or
video (less than two minutes):
- cistern and spot where the pump will go
- new pump
- pump wired/installed
- control system parts
- control system wired/installed
- pressure tank installed
- water flowing from a faucet or hose
