This is a badge bit (
BB) that is part of the
PEP curriculum. Completing this BB is part of getting the
straw badge in
Greywater and Willow Feeders.
For this Badge Bit you will build a large cold-climate greywater-fed mulch pit for a willow feeder system.
To complete this BB, the minimum requirements are:
Hole 4’ diameter, 8’ deep hole
6’
Wood chips in hole
Bucket turned upside-down, top of bucket is at least 6 inches below grade, with pipe feeding into top of bucket
Allows at least 12” drop from pipe outlet to
water / wood chip contact
a “standard” 5 gallon bucket
should work nicely
Then lots of wood chips on top of the bucket to make a mound
1’ above existing ground level, at top of mound
Ensure that pipes never freeze
Ensure that as the mulch pit settles and the bucket is pulled down, the pipe can slide in the bucket at least a foot.
Plant
poop beasts around the mulch pit:
Willows / poplars / cottonwoods
Plant at least 6 (at least one of each species
To show you've completed this Badge Bit, you must show proof of the following (as pictures or a
video < 2 mins):
- show before, progress, and after of building the greywater-fed mulch pit for a willow feeder system
- demonstrate that the greywater-fed mulch-pit meets the above requirements
