Permaculture Cook for the RMHJ
food at wheaton labs

Here's some info for potential cooks at the 2021 Rocket Mass Heater Jamboree at Wheaton Labs:

  • 9-day event from October 2nd through 10th. (Cook should arrive September 30 or October 1 to settle in.)
  • Between 40 and 50 people.
  • 3 simple meals per day: served potluck style promptly at 7am, 12pm, and 6pm.
  • The cook is responsible for washing up any cookware they use, while guests are responsible for washing their own dishes and utensils.

  • We supply all organic food and ask the cook to please give us their grocery list ahead of time.

Keeping the menu simple is best - no need to provide several courses at a meal. PB&J is always an option for those who cannot/prefer not to eat what is served.

Cook is provided a bunk in the bunkroom for the duration of the event, unless of course they prefer to bring a home-on-wheels or choose to camp out; we have plenty of camping space.

Compensation for this event is $1000 plus one ticket to a future event at Wheaton Labs.

If you are interested in this position, reply down below or PM me!

Too bad I'm all the way down here in South America! I'd be there for this job in a second!

Hope y'all find the perfect person. 😊

I'm not a professional cook, but I do have some training, and I am a great natural foods cook in general,  so I'd be willing to give it a go. I've worked at plenty of camps (counselor, lifeguard, sailing instructor etc.) and so I am familiar with the overall routine and large group expectations. Do you order from Azure?  I am also good at math so I think it wouldn't be too difficult to work out quantities. Glad to give it my best shot, anyway.

Hi Amelia, we do order from Azure. Those orders go in once a month - I believe the next one will happen toward the end of September. Would it be possible to email me with some more specific details about the sort of cooking experience you've had? Namely, the number of people you're used to cooking for, what sort of meals you like to make... Then I think it would be helpful to hop on a call; I could provide you with more specifics about what sort of tools are at your disposal, feedback from other event cooks, etc. Thanks so much for your interest, we really appreciate you!

    Warmly,
    Lara

Hi I am Evelyn, I live in Great Falls. Moved here 3 years ago. I would be able to do this event. I have work in many restaurants and also had my own catering business. I also have Chafing Dishes silver ware and all the fixings to do the event.
I am retired and have a very flexible schedule.
    Thank you Evelyn

    Hi,
I also replied to this post by private message.  Please message me back as soon as possible as I have other events pending if I am not needed/wanted to provide for this event.  Thank you! :)

Or we might never have existed at all. Freaky. So we should cherish everything. Even this tiny ad:
