This is a badge bit (BB) that is part of the PEM curriculum.  Completing this BB is part of getting the wood badge in Building.

While building a house may be out of reach at the moment, let's get some practice putting together smaller structures.  One critical step is the roof.  There are many styles of roofing so let's experiment with some.  Let's put on a wood shingle or shake roof!

Here's installing a shake roof:

More traditional shake:

And a more modern shingle roof:

Minimum requirements:
  - Install a wood roof on a building (new construction)
-Shingles, shakes or boards are allowed
  - At least 100 square feet
  - Ridge is water tight (if there is one)
  - No gaps line up from one row to the next

Provide proof of the following as pictures or video (<2 min):
  - The roof structure in need of a wooden roof
  - Roof partially installed
  - Roof completed
  - Close-up view of ridge (if there is one)

Switching from electric heat to a rocket mass heater reduces your carbon footprint as much as parking 7 cars. Tiny ad:
