Building
instruction, regulation, insurance, safety, etc

This badge is about building things, mainly with wood.  Some use of modern materials are allowed while striking a balance between longevity of the structure vs environmental impact of the materials.   I'm fine with a little plastic or cement if it will significantly extend the life of the building.  Health of the occupants is also a guiding principle.

Encourage: Wood, straw bale, roundwood, pallets, code compliant building, craftsmanship, additions/remodeling,

Don't use: OSB, pressure treated wood, spray foam, super tight building technologies

The points and projects build deliberately and are scored accordingly.  For instance, building a medium sized building (Wood badge) is only worth 24 points of experience.  Keep in mind that the roof counts for Straw points and the foundation for more points and the door for more points.  So if you work your way up to making a small building, by doing foundations and doors on smaller projects, you would have earned those points earlier.  The only new skills you're building are worth 24 points.

Show Otis that you can build a small place to live in and remodel or construct a variety of buildings to support a homestead
