This is a badge bit (
BB) that is part of the
PEM curriculum. Completing this BB is part of getting the
wood badge in
Round Wood Woodworking.
Quite often it would
be nice to be able to cross a lake without getting wet. Let's take a big tree and make it into a dugout canoe!
Here are the folks at Townsends making one:
Minimum requirements:
- Build dugout canoe from a single big log
- Hand tools, fire and power tools allowed (including chainsaws)
- At least 14' long
- At least 7" deep inside
- At least 20" wide outside
-
Water tight
Provide proof of the following as pictures or
video (<2 min):
- Log you're starting with
- Three times during construction showing tools used
- Finished canoe showing size measurements
- Finished canoe in the water (dry on the inside to prove water tightness)
