This is a badge bit (BB) that is part of the PEM curriculum.  Completing this BB is part of getting the straw badge in Dimensional Lumber Woodworking.

Perhaps your house came with a plastic mailbox that has seen one too many snowplows.  Let's replace it with something pretty - a timber frame post!

Here's one way to do it:

Minimum requirements:
  - Make a timber frame mailbox post
  - No metal
  - Includes at least one angle brace
  - Includes at least one mortise and tenon joint
  - Joints are tighter than the width of a wood pencil
  - Rot resistant wood
  - Not assembling a kit

Provide proof of the following as pictures or video (<2 min):
  - The lumber you're going to use for this project
  - Midway through the construction process
  - Completed mailbox post
  - Show close-ups of joinery
