I give this product 9 out of 10 acorns.

Cowpots tout themselves as a great alternative to peat pots. The company highlights the facts that the pots biodegrade faster than peat and is a more sustainable product. The farm utilizes manure in a biogas generator that is used on the farm and the post-gas use compost is then utilized to make cow pots.

I do think the idea of 'manure' pots is a bit of a stretch because what the pots are made out of is the fiber found in the manure. The organic goodness bits are sprayed off and the pots themselves have no smell. The company makes a variety of pots and I have ordered in bulk direct from the site with one of their mixed cases they offer. This will be my first year utilizing them but I'm eager to see how they work.

Not necessarily the cheapest option, but it is a sustainable product that is ecofocused and a potentially useful product for people who don't have the room to keep permanent trays. Shipping was prompt and everything arrived intact and well packed. The product is a little 'dusty' when unpacking but nothing that would be out of the ordinary for a fiber pot.

Update 7/27/2025

I am still utilizing these pots with good success while transplanting. I recommend bottom watering if possible with these pots in a tray. I have tried tearing the bottoms off and leaving the bottoms on when transplanting and don't notice an issue either way. Regular peat pots, I would notice a difference as the roots struggled to dig in unless I tore off the bottom.

I'm bumping up my score from 8 out of 10 to 9 out of 10 due to multiple successful seasons utilizing this product.
