Summary The ADOR1 Automatic Chicken Coop Door is a complete industrial-grade appliance. It is easily installed on the wall of your chicken coop. It opens at Sunrise and stays open all day. It shuts in the evening when it gets dark. The ADOR1 will automatically open and close the door daily using just an internal 6-volt lantern battery. As of April 9, 2020, we started including a pretested 6-volt lantern battery with this item.
This is INDUSTRIAL but in all of the right ways. Galvanized steel paired with simple straightforward circuitry and robust parts makes one heck of an efficient machine. This chicken door can be customized to delay the photo-sensitive eye to ensure your flock gets in on sundown. The door runs off a 6v lantern battery but can be finagled to work on a small solar charger with instructions on the creators website. I'm a bit nationalist when I say I love finding a product that is made in America but I especially love it when the product truly is quality made. The price might seem steep but you are getting every penny with the robustness of the construction of this door. It has weathered this New York winter well and I am very impressed.
One thing to note, if you get ice/rain storms you need to be diligent in making sure that the door isn't frozen shut. We had a freak storm and checked our flock to be diligent and noticed it was frozen up. A quick smack with a putty knife I had nearby fixed that right quick. To prevent it, I should purchase the overhang the website advertises to give more weather protection.
Update 2/18/2025 - I have had this door for two years now and have yet to change the battery. I don't have any crazy settings except a small delay for closing and opening when the photo eye registers if its day or night. I have mitigated the icing issue by making sure there is a bit of an overhang where ice/water might come down. Very pleased with this purchase.
Update 4/6/2026 - I have had this door for three years and I have finally just changed the battery. Five minutes with a phillips head screwdriver and viola. I'm still pleased with this purchase.
I would recommend this door to any chicken keeper out there.
