Paul Wheaton is a powerful advocate of permaculture. He was dubbed the Duke of Permaculture by both Geoff Lwaton and Sepp Holzer, and The Bad Boy of Permcaulture by Occupy Monsanto. Paul is the owner of permies.com, coderanch.com, richsoil.com, and Wheaton Labs. He has produced over 400 podcasts, a multitude of youtube videos and multiple DVDs, has presented at over 100 events around the US, and has written dozens of articles and a book. The events he hosts at his property, Wheaton Labs, have resulted in rocket stoves and ovens, massive earthworks, solar dehydrators and and many other permaculture innovations.

Paul Wheaton, dubbed The Duke of Permaculture by Sepp Holzer and Geoff Lawton, is an author, producer, certified advanced master gardener, and tyrannical ruler of two on-line empires. After a successful career as a software engineer in aerospace, Paul became obsessed with everything permaculture. He has created hundreds of youtube videos, hundreds of podcasts and written dozens of articles. You can find all of it at permies.com

For a magazine:

Paul Wheaton has hundreds of free podcasts, videos, articles and a large online community about homesteading and permaculture.  He now offers movies, educational materials, books and experiences.  All at permies.com/stuff

Here is Paul's bio from makeitmissoula:

Paul Wheaton is is the tyrannical ruler of two on-line communities. One is about permaculture and one is about software engineering. There is even one for Missoula. Paul has written several permacutlure articles starting with one on lawn care that he presented at the MUD Project 17 years ago, including articles on raising chickens, cast iron and diatomaceous earth. Paul also regularly uploads permaculture videos and permaculture podcasts. In his spare time, Paul has plans for world domination and is currently shopping for a hollowed out volcano in the Missoula area, with good submarine access.

But that is obviously outdated now.

Here is Paul Wheaton's bio at JavaRanch:

http://www.javaranch.com/paul-wheaton.jsp

Here is the bio somebody wrote on facebook:

As a certified master gardener and a certified permaculture designer, Paul Wheaton gardens, farms and lives what he preaches. He founded Richsoil.com, Permies.com and a few other gems (ahem, JavaRanch.com). Paul’s podcasts and videocasts take in-depth looks at everything from organic gardening to lesser-known methods of permaculture.

It’s all about being practical, and over at www.Richsoil.com, Paul’s articles offer smart, practical ideas for cheap and easy lawn care, cast iron pans, raising chickens, Hugelkulture (gardening without irrigation), rocket stove mass heaters, and more. (Yup, it’s a pretty diverse list.)

Permies.com is the gateway to the Paul Wheaton empire, and it is the largest online permaculture community in the world. If you’re looking to learn more about alternative energy, homesteading, organic gardening, and permaculture design, head on over to Permies.com where great permaculture enthusiasts gather and share advice.

Got a question? Go to Permies.com and post a question in the forum. That’s where you’ll find Paul and lots of great advice.

Want the inside scoop? When Paul gets inspired, he drops his followers a daily-ish email. Subscribe at http://www.richsoil.com/email.jsp.

Paul lives in Missoula, Montana. And he has a special forum for the Garden City: The Missoula Eco Forum. https://permies.com/forums/f-47/missoula-eco-forum. He’d love to see you over there!

"Occupy Monsanto" calls Paul "The Bad Boy of Permaculture"; treehugger.com calls him "hardcore green" and how Geoff Lawton calls him "The Duke of Permaculture". He gives away more free information on permaculture than all other permaculture sites combined. Maybe something about producing the rmh dvds. Wofati? What else?

Just off the top of my head... feel free to edit for factual errors. All opinions are mine own and I stand by them.

Paul Wheaton: Permaculture icon and iconoclastic permaculturist. Know in some circles as "The Bad Boy of Permaculture" and in inner circles as "The Duke". Not your average practitioner, but self-described tyrant of two disparate online communities and one real-world farm. His moderating rule of "Be Nice" is enforced with a potent mixture of open discussion and enlightened self-interest. Certified master gardener, permaculture design guru, farmer, community leader and repository of esoteric (sometimes controversial) knowledge and well researched opinions... All while rockin' a spiffy pair of overalls. His blunt style is not for the faint of heart; Prepare to have your mind blown open.

I'm unprepared to write a full bio... So how about a snippet that can be incorporated into a full bio?

Some of the best qualities of a dictator
Paul Wheaton is a well known, self-admitted, overall wearing dictator. His controversial style has become more pervasive than you would think. For instance, there was this guy named Steve who proved that this leadership style is successful. You have a developer, designer and a dictator. The developer develops architecture. The designer designs for carbon based life forms. The dictator determines resolutions to any conflict between mindsets and dictates overall, wearing overalls, the path forward.

One of the best qualities in a dictators toolshed is vision. Without vision, projects easily get off track. Dictators gain vision from experience, gaining deeper knowledge through observation & interaction. Visionaries are best known for finding new paths resulting in harmonious integration.

Dictators that assume their role by force, instead of proven leadership, inevitably create catastrophes. Thus avoiding and recovering from catastrophes is perhaps the best quality overall.

Hi Paul, and everybody.

Everything written here is awesome - some more awesomer than others. I only am commenting on this subject so that it may be of some help, strictly information, and help these gifted writer's that have pretty much slammed it. I want any unexpected rewards for this small effort, to go into the "support Pauls World domination" funds, in continuing to help to roll things along.
I want to tell you of my experience, in some area's, because I've literally been biting my tongue on allot and this is an instance where I feel like my comments will be helpful, not detracting from your goals.

Paul, the first time I saw your site, I was searching for informative links 1.) for an educated link of information and video's to be able to share in spreading the wave of common sense that is "coming back in style" 2.) for supporting links to more quality information, and much more... because I'm a busy person, fighting many battles on my own front, and absolutely will not promote anyone, that I cannot vouch for with excruciating research present to back up my decision to support them.
I am a hard sell, as you may have gathered already, and I was literally taken in for three days straight in reading and video's. That is a difficult task. so much so, that it is a first.
I will tell you of what I couldn't tear myself away from. and I believe that will help in some way. I found the site with a return on a google search, and I first saw a plain forum, not created to sell you something, but one that was down to the core helpful with no bs surprises. In the manner Paul, that you were presented, I felt immediately that you would be a good neighbor and someone that knew the importance of the information shared, more so than any money that could be made. With each video I watched, the more mesmerized I became at the information you were trying so hard to make available. I wasn't punished the first time, in signing up for what you had to offer from the very beginning till now, and counting. I made a good call. You are walking the walk and living the life you are so desperately trying to help change the world with. I've yet to be disappointed by you or anyone associated with you, and believe me when I tell you, I look hard.
Enough of that, besides your sense of humor, honesty, and devil may care unstaged photo's, that save a thousand words, I am left with advising you to do whatever feels right to you in being true to yourself, you haven't gone wrong yet. (and quite frankly I am quite interested in watching your inevitable success as it unfolds.)

I don't disagree. In fact I think of him as both a designer and a developer. By mastering both, he's in a great position to lead / direct.

I've listened to about 2/3rds of the podcasts however I have no practical experience... hopefully my post wasn't offensive. It was simply my attempt at Paul-styled humor.

BTW, what does TL & BC stand for?

BC = base camp, the mfg home the insurance company bought for the previous owner who let a single pipe bust.

TL = the land, the main attraction right down the road.

Paul has a mind beyond my comprehension. He can be frightfully scary one instant and incredibly insightful the next. He's not to be fucked with, though he may not know it fully.

A view from the tall grass

Bearded bad boy
And never coy.
Brooks no fools,
Suffers few rules.

Barely tolerates permits,
Makes friends with hermits.
And upside down is the way he burns it.

Tossing out bricks
For all to build with,
Gathering knowledge
to make lives rich.

He gleans from masters
Then knowledge he scatters
So just a little faster
We can all follow after.

Spouting Eco-scale
And buildin' swales
With fbombs flyin'
He's a perma whale.

Overall, lets not forget his caring
Overall, lets not forget his sharing
Overall, lets not forget he's taller than Sepp.
Yet not yet, lets not forget.

Paul Wheaton is is the creator and tyrannical ruler of the largest permaculture forum on the internet, permies.com. He has been crowned the "Duke of Permaculture" and also referred to as the "Bad Boy of Permaculture" many times. He has released over 290 podcasts on many permaculture topics ranging from eco-building to frugality to cast iron cookware. He has also written gobs of articles on these topics as well. He is an Advanced Certified Master Gardener, permaculture design guru, farmer, community leader, and repository of well researched opinions. His blunt style is not for the faint of heart and he has no problem using the full beauty of the English language. Not to mention, he accomplishes all of this while rocking a pair of spiffy overalls.

So I took kind of bits and pieces from a bunch of the different bios. But yeah. Here is another option.

There are men and women all over the world pursuing lofty goals of all sorts. In most cases, their endeavours are of little real worth and often are motivated by greed, arrogance, hubris and all manner of human faults. The loudest, flashiest and most polished are usually the least noble, leaving the inverse as the characteristics to seek out in any search for those worthy of your respect. You should also filter out anyone that devotes a lot of time to trying to convince you of something or to change your mind and follow them. The most genuine explorers are the ones that have little time to talk about their discoveries but gladly welcome you to follow along if you're interested, just so long as you stay out of the way. Their followers become explorers in their own rights and provide tremendous breadth and depth to the quest, and they and their leader eventually metamorphose into a gigantic, towering creature whose stride is unwavering and whose purpose is clear, right, and beyond just being worthwhile, it is necessary. Paul Wheaton is more than merely a man pursuing permaculture advancement, Paul Wheaton is a leviathan of hope and possibility.

How about this:

"Paul Wheaton is the tyrannical dictator of Permies.com, the largest permaculture forum on the web. As a certified master gardener and permaculture designer, he's built an empire around what he calls, 'infecting brains with permaculture'. His forums are full of rich information, and there are a number of great free resources, guides, and articles that can be found on his sister site, Richsoil.com as well.

Most recently, he has worked with rocket mass heater experts Ernie and Erica in developing a 4 DVD set on all things rocket science, and has built a following around his World Domination Gardening DVDs, which detail how to use hugelkultur, swales, and natural ponds to capture and utilize water without irrigation. His recent work with natural buildings based on Mike Oehler's designs have resulted in the creation of the Wofati, a semi underground natural home design.

Crowned the Duke of Permaculture by Geoff Lawton and the Bad Boy of Permaculture by the Occupy Monsanto movement, Paul continues to educate and inspire, and is hosting a PRI certified Permaculture Design and Appropriate Technology course this summer at his property - dubbed Wheaton Labs - in western Montana. More information on the courses can be found here."

Most people only want a paragraph I find, so this can be summarized and shortened a bit. We could have a full and short version on hand, depending on what the publisher needs. What photo do you prefer people use?

Currently that rocket stove link goes to the old 4 DVD set.
