Summary

Smithey Ironware is a backyard story. Our founder, Isaac Morton, hatched the idea for Smithey while toying around his woodshed admiring the smooth surfaces and timeless logos of vintage ironware design. Here, he developed an expertise in restoring old and forgotten pieces into surprisingly stunning cookware, which he would then gift to friends and family.

I give this cast iron 9 out of 10 acorns.

Smithey makes a mean shaped hunk of iron. My first experience with the company was with a skillet I received as a birthday present from my girlfriend (now wife) years ago as she knew I enjoyed cooking with cast iron. Most recently we had a seven quart Dutch oven added to our cookware assortment as a wedding present from the in-laws.

I find Smithey's products to be aesthetically pleasing, even heating, and well produced. They were packaged well with a beautiful pre-seasoning already done. I always make sure to season a few times before I use any new cast iron but I did note how smooth the interior of the cookware was upon first receiving them. I have been using my Smithey skillet almost daily for a few years now and it doesn't fail me. It might not look the prettiest but I am pretty hard on it with the variety of cooking I do.

I did deduct one apple because the price of Smithey cookware is steep compared to other competitors (Lodge). These are, in my opinion, heirloom quality pieces and will be passing them down once I get too old and frail to lug the heaviest of my iron out. I however don't foresee that for many many years.

I'm a Smithey fanboy, give them a try.
