This is a badge bit (BB) that is part of the PEM curriculum.  Completing this BB is part of getting the Straw badge in Traditional Skills.

Leather is a tremendously useful material.  Let's tan a hide!

Here's one way to do it:

Minimum requirements:
  - Tan a hide
  - At least 5 square feet
       - Can be multiple hides
  - Smoked
  - Not from a domestic animal system (that is covered by the Animal Care badge)
  - This bb can only use materials that existed 200 years ago

Provide proof of the following as pictures or video (<2 min):
  - The hide you're starting with
  - Fleshed
  - Tanning mixture (brains, eggs, etc)
  - Smoking
  - Finished hide

I don't get it. A whale wearing overalls? How does that even work? It's like a tiny ad wearing overalls.
