Wonderful forum. With bees and chickens and now sheep, along with lumber and cob work on a greenhouse, "it's good to learn from your mistakes, and better to learn from others'"

Successes and failures all add to growth.

Bruce, welcome to Permies! I have to admit that I've learned more from my mistakes and failures than I have from my successes. :) I hope you'll share some details about your projects with us.

Bruce, so glad to find someone in MD!

I'm making just 1st baby steps to my dream of homesteading. I'm more into animals than into gardening, but will have to start with the latter as here in Baltimore county, you MUST have at least an acre of land to put a single chicken, dang it!

I'm at the point to start thinking about selling our house to move to a different state where we can afford more than 3/4 acre 😢.

However, I am getting pallets to break down and build garden beds, got my 1st load of free wooden chips to fill those, started collecting kitchen scraps to make compost. Just baby steps.

Hello! I'm also here in Maryland, and also in Baltimore County. I'll be relocating out of state likely late Spring next year, but here in the area 'til then.

As I've been an apartment renter/house-sharer, I'm relegated to a community garden plot, which I'd been messing with for the past two growing seasons. Went up to Harford County for a bit more experience caring for herd animals.

Best of success to you all.

Fun stories... When in suburbia, I asked a couple of different farmers if they wanted help, for a little product, in exchange, with the expressed intention of learning something.  They each took me up on it, we all got what we wanted, and it was great getting to know them.  Most farmers can use a hand with SOMETHING.  And you see how different setups work.  Both these farmers had CSA's - Third Way, and Rousedale Farm.  So the farmers were quite approachable.

permaculture is a more symbiotic relationship with nature so I can be even lazier. Read tiny ad:
