My husband has worn holes in some of his really nice work socks; since they're pretty nice quality I did a more extensive "darning" than I would normally do. (Just much finer weave and a lot tighter than I do for normal socks)

One sock had a massive heel hole, the other had some weak spots that were about to break through. I didn't get a lot of in-progress shots on the big hole, so I made sure to get more pics of darning the smaller problem spots.

I decided to get out of my comfort zone and try something new, like darning a sock. This pair of wool socks was over 20 years old and still in good condition. No hole in toes or heels but there was a big one near the cuff.

I used 2-ply mohair/silk yarn in similar color and a bottle for support. It was much faster than I thought, taking less than 10 min and my sock was fixed!

It feels so good to learn a new skill, thanks permie!

I hereby certify that this badge bit is complete, especially since it's such a small hole. I think next time you might want to use thicker thread (or multiple strands of thread). I've noticed that the thin thread seems to "cut" the thicker yarn of socks.
