Need Help coming up with New Years Resolutions?

I have picked these up on Pinterest so maybe some of these will help:

I like the first one the best.  Which one do you like?

Have you made your list?

My resolution is to finish my Scavenger Hunts.

A few years ago I was introduced to the idea of just coming up with a word for the year.

Like:
Replenish
Balance
Flourish
Focus
Bloom

This year I've chosen a word in Mixteco (my mother-in-law's language), Kueni. (qua-en-ee) Kueni means somewhere between, it takes time and go slowly and be patient. When people are trying to rush through things, you say to them, Kueni

And yet, no one posted resolutions on eating more jelly donuts and drinking more coffee.

Melissa, that is a really great idea.  I liked the word you picked out, too.

John, I have not had a jelly donut since I worked somewhere that where furnished at work.

I hadn't even thought of them.  Thanks for the memory.

I like the second one the best.

The older I get the more I have realized relationships with others is way more important than any physical thing I can acomplish.  I want to be the best Christian, the best husband, the best father, the best son, the best friend some one could have.  I no longer want things.

I don't like coffee, but making donuts is on my "To Bake/Cook" list so that's basically the same thing as saying eat more donuts. I can't make them and not try them myself!

Ha, I like the first one, too!
I'm challenging myself this year to daily do something for my garden, even just a tiny something. I started a thread on here about it.

I'm doing a January challenge to declutter something every day. I do this most years, as I feel claustrophobic in the house with dark, cold, often wet days keeping me inside and the new Christmas gifts that need space.

I hadn't planned to make a list of goals for the year, but then I read, "How much more will you accomplish just by writing down the goal? Even if you don't meet the goal, you'll have pushed yourself more than you would have without it." So now I have a "22 in 2022" list.

One year, my partner and I did make a resolution to eat more pizza. And succeeded! It was the same year that we were going crazy cause we got a distressed house that was knee deep in old stuff, cleaned it out, had to accelerate our move in date significantly and thus had to get it livable way faster than we thought. So it was mostly a joke, but also kind of to have just one thing that seemed doable, since everything else we were doing seemed so impossible. Plus, who has time to cook when you're doing all that?

I haven't really made resolutions the past few years. Someone really smart I know suggested a slightly different approach:

"The problem with resolutions as statements is that we presume to know in advance how we're going to respond to each new situation. We expect ourselves to conform to our own idealized image. And although we may be able to maintain it for a little while through will power, it almost inevitably falls flat.

Instead of treating the resolution as a statement of what will occur...

What if you treated it as a question to live into?

For example, next year I'm going to explore the question: what does it mean to live psychologically -- or ecologically -- rather than chronologically?

I have no clue where that'll lead (if anywhere) or how I'll do it.

But I'm curious to find out."

I haven't yet decided exactly what question I'd like to live from or into. I'd definitely like to explore what slowing down and being more in my body and the present moment is like. So probably something along those lines.

I love this! Having a fun resolution like eating more pizza, and having a question to explore instead of a resolution to meet. I'll be thinking about these.

It is that time of year when we all make new year's resolutions.

I am not sure I made it a new year's resolution though last year I made it my goal to learn more about mushrooms due to the fact that mushrooms offer lots of benefits.

That may still be what I want to learn more about.

Here are some funnies from Pinterest:

I am one who does both--makes particular resolutions and chooses a guiding word for the year.

My word for 2023 is "Start." A couple of years ago I had a similar thing going when I chose "Do," but even that was too big of an idea for me and my lassitude. My guiding word of this  year is going to get me to simply to start whatever it is on my mind--whether it is a gardening project,  homework grading, washing dishes, etc. So far this year my new word has worked very well to just get me moving those first few steps!

I suppose I could make a resolution to build myself a new garden cart this year... Considering I haven't managed to do so for the last 3 years isn't particularly promising, however, the fact that the old one really is rotting out beyond salvaging, is a new motivating factor.

I'm just not up to "save the planet" sorts of resolutions this year. I'll just try to be happy getting one job done at at time!

I have resolved to take a two-fisted stance against the cold and dark. There are a ton of things I can do, and I am going to do them. I started tonight, cutting walking paths with a headlamp, a beer, a sawzall, and a bad attitude. Blue Monday is going to wake up with a shiner of epic proportions. Fight!

I don't normally do resolutions, though this year, I may just take you up on the donuts, John! But, I'll have to make them, because they'll have to be conventional-wheat-free, and keto, or at least low carb, since my hypoglycemia has been acting up, lately. That means, recipe testing, which means more donuts. And since I've not had any at all, in several years, that means even one tiny donut 'hole' would be "more"!

I started keeping a word of the year, about 5yrs ago. One year was compassion, another was patience, one was gratitude, one was clarity. Last year was diligence. This year it will be forgiveness. This one is really striking a chord, and has already brought me to my knees, a couple times - I just might be the most difficult person on my list of those needing my forgiveness. Last week, I signed us up for a short, 2wk study on it, with an online chapter of our faith, and we started it, last night. This one is already looking like it will be the biggest challenge, yet - and likely the most important word for me, to date.

Bumping this thread! (And quoting myself, which is really weird.)

This year, my "week of Blue Monday" plan is to try to make other people laugh out loud. The best medicine!

Tomorrow, I am participating in all my business/Teams meetings in character as The Swedish Chef. Bork Bork Bork!

I'm gonna stay at or under my current weight. Which shouldn't be hard, since I have been stable for six months.

The trouble is that permies are too good at upcycling and repurposing. You just never know when you might need something from the "clutter" pile.

But then I get involved in too many projects and the "raw materials" just sit there - like the parts of an old umbrella I'm supposed to be turning into a sturdy tomato cage.

I do try to focus on the finishing things - last night I finished sewing a new zipper into Hubby's favourite farm jacket. Earlier in the week, I re-worked the collar and patched the upper back both using scraps of material from an old jacket. Yes, he should have just garbaged it - the zip cost more than I paid for the jacket at the charity shop 15 years ago, but it's his favourite for cold weather, and he'll use it, so I fixed it!

That is what my goal for 2020 was.

I don't think I even have thought about a  `New Year Resolution` since someone mentioned that in 2023 so I guess I didn't make any ....

I think it is a little late now.

I don't think it's ever too late to make an honourable, achievable goal for the year. Well maybe Dec 31 would be pushing it a little, but even then, if I did it right away, I might still get a sense of accomplishment or a sense that the goal was worth having.

Jay, after thinking about this, I feel I made a New Year's Resolution though I didn't think to call it that at the time.

It's a huge project that I am rushing to get finished before a deadline ...

The question was 'Haven't made new year's resolutions?'
And I wanted to answer: yes, I haven't. I never make new year's resolutions.
I can 'set goals', or write 'to do lists' whenever I want. Why would I do that on the 1st of January?
Thank you for asking :-)
