Ok just as a heads up I'm not interested in debate about men v women, etc. I clicked on the related threads. Don't want to go those places. All I want is some direction so I can see what other women are doing. So name me some permie women please.

In the forum titled 'permaculture artisans' https://permies.com/forums/f-151/artisans there are several threads about women teaching and practicing permaculture.

Thanks. I did hear Ruth Stoute mentioned which I loved since I consider myself her reincarnation. Naked, lazy gardening and then wine. Yup, I'm channeling her.

edit......if you browse the whole thread there are links to threads about several of the women mentioned.

Thanks all! My permie research is usually pretty rambling. Just following one link after another. And I was hoping to direct my rambling a bit toward looking at what women are up to.

On YouTube, about a third of the postings that I've seen were women or male/female couples of varying degrees of competence.

Makes sense. Seldom do people want to be alone in life and competence in permaculture is almost always associated with full commitment to the lifestyle. If one is an subject mater expert, I can understand why the other would be as well.

A permaculture blog I follow called Tenth Acre Farm just sent out an email announcement of a new online PDC being offered by the Permaculture Women's Guild. The online PDC is being taught by 40 women from 13 different countries. Looks like a really good online pdc and they have already sold out their early bird deal - now just offering standard enrollment for $740.

I think this is really cool and I wanted to share it on here - this thread while old seemed like a good one. Here is a video from the course page talking about the PDC.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lfJUfahQab0

The group also has an online magazine that features articles written by women permaculturalists: Permaculture Women Magazine

The magazine looks active and is interesting. There are also some Facebook groups associated with the organization that seem active.

Hope this is helpful!

Three acre permaculture holding in Ireland, conceived and planted by one woman (a grandmother!) on previously abused land.  She's very inspiring!  I try to watch all her YouTube videos.

Listening to Bill Mollison's old PDCs from the 1980's, Bill proudly cited being influenced by Ruth Stout & Rachel Carson. When I first started writing my permaculture classes, I found myself disturbed how little I was mentioning women's names when I was talking about permaculture, even though I myself have been heavily influenced by & taught directly by several amazing women permaculturists. Therefore, I took several steps to self-regulate. Firstly, I now always mention all the women I have studied under as well as the permaculture & proto-permaculture books that I have read which have been written by women authors. Secondly, I now always mention Stout & Carson in my introductory "history of permaculture" class. Thirdly, I am currently writing a Women of Permaculture class. Each slide profiles a mini-biography of a different woman's contributions to the world of permaculture. This is proving to be a much larger project than I ever anticipated, as there are so many amazing women contributing to permaculture! It may end up being a course series instead of a single class! I also co-teach all of my classes with my partner Rebecca Rhapsody (her bio's at the bottom of this page).
Women who I have taken permaculture classes from:
Starhawk told me that she's taught over 40 PDCs,
Pandora Thomas does a lot of co-teaching with Starhawk & has some amazing accomplishments in her own right (eg. teaching formerly incarcerated folks),
MC Swearingen knows a lot about trees,
Gita Van Woerden of Animal Farm,
Women whose published works I've read that have influenced me (in addition to all the women listed above):
Rosemary Morrow - The Earth User's Guide!
Jenny Pell recently taught an awesome PDC on Maui,
Where I'm currently researching for my "Women of Permaculture" class (future course?):

It's funny to me hearing that most of the permaculture leadership out there is male.  Here in Maine/New Hampshire almost all of the permaculture leadership is female....seems like a heavy portion of the membership is too.  Something I don't really think at all about....I'm just excited for every permaculturist in the support network.  We're all in this together.  I'm really very surprised that there's a lack of female leadership anywhere.  Our local leadership is priceless.

Penny Livingston is amazing. I attended her final PDC in Bolinas CA. She was a friend of Bill Mollison and has been teaching courses and working around the world for 30 years. Incredible woman.
