Hi folks.  I have been having some problems with my guts recently, and a friend tuned me into a few teachers which lead me down an internet rabbit hole that ended me up at this series.  For a short time this series of videos is being offered for free on Youtube.  I will post the videos that I presently have access to, and the next ones as they come up, but I don't know how long they will be up for free.

The first episode is background information and is primarily about cellular metabolism and life and death of cells (don't worry, it's not as boring as it sounds; the experts make it pretty interesting for us and the editing is superb); and the relationship between the life cycle of our cells and the aging process and our health.  There is some focus put on mitochondria and their importance in these processes.

Here is episode 1.

Here is episode 2.  I'm just watching it now.  So far as I watch the first half hour they are focussing on how the gut microbe population -s well as the habitat on our skin and other places-is being destroyed by chemicals (like glyphosate) in our diet, antibiotics, and cosmetics, as well as other factors like stress.  We have more microbial DNA / genetics in our body than in our 'human' cells. There is mention of the Vagus nerve and the Enteric Nervous system and how the gut microbes are using the connections to the lining of the gut (enteric system) to send 9 times as many messages to the brain than the vagus nerve sends back to the gut.  As well, gut microbes are using our mitochondria as tools to create different effects in our system.

This is like Bryant's Soil Series but for your inner garden!  I'm pretty excited about this, but maybe I'm just geeking out on it.  :)

1) Chemicals are 'accidentally' killing our healthy gut/skin microbes
2) We are starving/killing our healthy gut/skin microbes by not eating the food that encourage their population (processed grains, sugar, fructose,etc vs tubers/whole grain/vegetables/fruits/etc)
3) We are not re-inoculating our gut/skin microbes by not eating LIVE fermented food (milk kefir, water kefir, koji, red rice yeast, tempeh, etc) and swimming in pond/lake/river/sea water.
4) We are purposely killing our healthy gut/skin microbes with anti-microbial chemicals.

I am sure there are more, but this is all I can think of, on the spot.

Iterations are fine, we don't have to be perfect

Quote from episode 2:   "That Axis between mitochondria and microbiota is predicated in terms of efficacy by the availability of nutrients.  So, the bacteria require the nutrients to be extracted from the foods in order for the mitochondria to become replicable, reparable and functional.  And equally, mitochondria release various metabolites as a result of their activity which favours a smooth calm functioning microbiota.  So we have two bacterial components; One is the microbiota which exist as a wide range of different species and we have the remnants of a bacteria that was subsumed by a cell millions of years ago (Roberto's addition to clarify: the mitochondria is this remnant bacteria) which exchange information.  That dynamic dialog of information is really a very new area of research.  But what we can say is it's dialog becomes determined by the availability of substrate, and that substrate is our food. And arguably what we can say is that the bacteria present in the soil communicate with the bacteria in our gut and the historical remnants of the bacteria determine our viability as a human for a system of transferred knowledge."

Thats a really good quote "not only is our mitochondria from a microbe but every single human cell in our body came from a microbe, we have so many pathways that are the same in bacteria/fungi/algae/etc. We are a community.

Fungi's need plants and plants need fungi.
Humans/animals need plants and plants depend on animal for pollination/dispersal/etc/etc.

Likewise we humans need, not only plants, but all the other microbes and critters, even if they are in our way at times and if they challenge us and kill us when we get old/weak.

Iterations are fine, we don't have to be perfect

I take my health very seriously, have come a long in way in healing my many issues, have been able to help others. And have a long way to go, lots more to discover!

I've only watched the first three, as of this evening.  There are some aspects/factors that are mentioned that are not knew to me, but others are quite interesting and novel directions for my brain to go.  I hope that other people are taking advantage of this knowledge at this time.  

Also, if a person does want to pay for the entire package, it comes with a lot more information AND the creators of the project have a goal to aid a million children in areas of the world where mothers and newborns are at high risk; they will do this through donations to aid groups who are already doing that work.

Here is a quote from Episode 4:

I don't know how long they will be available, Anne.  I get another one sent to me and it says something like: "only hours left to watch episode..."  but they are all still up so far.  There are nine in the series.  I'm considering buying into the lot.

For me, these are taking extra long to watch because I pause them and consider what they say, or I go back to listen to the previous speaker as I like how the concepts from one interview to the next are blended often so seamlessly, building off one another.

I'm with you, Ann.  I'm on episode 7 this morning, so there is a chance for me.  I got an email today from them that says that midnight tonight is the shutdown on the free stuff.  So these might all go blank.  I don't know.

So these are still up until midnight eastern standard time (USA).  I'm watching episode 9 right now.  I had to skip episode 8.

Here's a quote from episode 9 which is I think, the some of the gist of things in some ways, and reminds me of the idea of the Better World Book:  "start to have deeper conversations about why we are doing what we are doing.  And when we have those deeper conversations, then it's like OK, we agree that for some reason, and somehow, we got here, and it's nobody's fault.  What are we gonna do tomorrow to get where we want to be again?  How can we find our way home?  And that requires a lot of trust, a lot of community, a lot of faith and a lot of dialog; and understanding that there a lot of ways that we used to connect with the world that we've lost, and somehow we have to find our way, and not in the traditional way but in a re-imagination of those old methods and this wonderful technology that we have as well."

Maybe it's just a happy glitch, because in order to put these on Permies, I had to go to watch these on youtube, and then use the Youtube thing to get them on here.  :)  They are still up.
