BioLite Cook Stove Generates Electricity

I ran across this website today. The BioLite Stove's performance is compared to a basic rocket stove. Interesting twist they have added.

I have to wonder, though, the basic rocket stove they show is a far cry from the rocket mass heaters you folks have been making. I wonder how your homemade rocket mass heater's emissions compare to the BioLite stove? Any thoughts?

I wonder how long it will be before one of the rocket stove owners on this forum experiments with a TEG

Interesting idea but I would imagine you would have to run it for hours to get any meaningful power out of it.

It may be more suited to a rocket mass heater that id run for longer periods

there are advantages to both designs (RMH vs TEG), but one major disadvantage stick out about the BioLite. If you look at the bottom of the page:
"© 2011 BioLite™ - Patent Pending"

So, they don't really want anyone "building" that stove, they want you buying it. RMH designs are significantly more "open".

If the patent is granted that just means you can't make them commercially right?

I would have thought you could one for your own use or am I wrong about that?

I actually have one of these that somebody gave me about 7 years ago. I wasn't sure it would still work but I fired it up again tonight.. and it still works great! The flames tend to spin in a vortex just like with a RMH.

To me, the battery charging feature is basically a gimmick. I look at it more as a camp stove that can run on twigs.
