Lots of reports in the news lately about farmers dumping their crops because of processing and distribution issues due to Covid-19. Some of those farmers have offered their excess crops to the public for anyone who wants to pick them up. If you know of such a place, please post it here.

This one is in Idaho. A bit far from me, but maybe other permies can make use of it: https://www.facebook.com/ryan.cranney.98/posts/10221893345906521

Non-facebook version: Cranney Farms is dumping their potato crop, and is offering the potatoes for free. The address is 1300 South 700 West Oakley, Idaho

Any other farms doing that that you know of?

Not really "crop dumping", but a drug company is offering free insulin to those who need it: https://communitynews.org/2020/04/15/plainsboro-company-offering-90-day-supply-of-insulin-at-no-cost/?fbclid=IwAR3Zw09is9T8wBUMaeAu8EW-4V04knFzMabFZw-wT_hEX_924H83rstxoNc

On one hand, offering produce for free if you can't sell it seems like a no-brainer. Take the tax loss, and make a fine community minded gesture. Everybody wins, sort of.

On the other hand, what would the farm's insurance policy cover? Surely not public access -- unless they purchase additional coverage, which can't be paid for in potatoes. Then somebody claims they stubbed their toe and the landowner is mired in lawsuits, which also can't be paid for in potatoes.

Sorry for the downer, folks. But the devil is in the details.

My farm policy covers visitors and customers so it quite possibly is already covered.
