I wrote a little eBook last year about how to clean the house using safe, edible ingredients. Etsy tells me this topic is trending right now, but my book isn't selling.

The goal is to find out what I need to do to get this book selling on Etsy.

how to clean with cleaners you can eat

So I decided to play with SEO by changing some keywords, the thumbnail image, and description.  which got me here.  It's really neat that Etsy lets me have two of the same listing so that I can play with SEO without loosing out on any existing SEO.

I went two steps further.  I put the book on half-price sale for a month and I bought Etsy ads for the two listings to improve my analytics of the views to clicks ratios.

Etsy ads are charged by click, and I set my maximum budget of $1 per day.  I'm not reaching that budget which has me very worried that there is still a lot more work to do on this.

Two things I think would help me out
1. if I could get half a dozen purchases and reviews for this product (the one with the new photo), it would make Etsy search love me more.  But I don't know a Etsy-legal way to go about doing this.
2. I will probably need to up the price substantially when the sale is over.  When I sell (and buy) on Etsy, I notice that the price of the item directly corresponds with the perceived value.  I was going to up it to CAD $10 or $12, but the podcast I'm listening to suggests that over $20 sells better.  But I don't think it's worth that much.  I'm still undecided on this path.

After about 5 days, here's the breakdown of the ads.

Since the old (black and white) listing is older, it's got more love from the search, so it's getting more views and clicks. But if you look at the ratio of views to clicks, the new one is doing significantly better.

I'm going to run the ad campaign for a week or two longer so I can get the feedback about the keywords people are using.

When I look at general PDF downloads for patterns, the price seems to be between $7 and $12 CAD for just a few pages.  https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/764033206/felted-wool-slippers-pdf-pattern-do-it?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=pdf+tutorial+wool&ref=sr_gallery-1-7&organic_search_click=1

The only other cleaning book I can find is about $10 CAD https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/734004445/allergy-living-ebook-simply-natural?ref=cart

Then there's something like this which I've been thinking of doing, which comes in at $17CAD.  https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/800839041/wool-processing-tutorial-how-to-wash?ref=user_profile

The thing that bugs me is that most of these printable PDFs don't tell me how many pages or what paper size (A4 or 8.5x11).

Another thing I've heard is that the cost of the book should be roughly equal to one dollar per page of actual content (aka, packed full of text, not fluff).

I turned off the etsy ads for these listings as I have enough data to see where I'm going wrong.

It looks like my keywords and title are causing my book to show up in the search for unrelated items.

The problem is, I'm not really sure what to do with this information.

I'll favorite and like your stuff!

So that's really useful information. I think you should make 2 duplicates of the listing and start using tags from your description. Your description has a lot of good phrases and words that may do well in search. These may be good: bleach free, mold, non-toxic, nontoxic/non toxic, ecofriendly, gift, natural, toxins, alternative, zero waste, low waste, unclog drains, food safe, vegan, cruelty free, affordable, frugal, homemaking, housekeeping, hippie, etc.
I'd see what tags your competition is using too.

My shop if you want to return the favorite and like?

I am just brainstorming here, no real knowledge of etsy to back it up...

There don't seem to really be any search strings that imply people are seeing this ad because they are actually looking for something related. That's obviously not great...

So maybe literally nobody is searching for your book specifically, on etsy... yet.

And in that case it would not help much to get the seo stuff just perfect for those nonexistant people to find the book... and the current seo setup thst attempts to do this, is mostly showing it to people looking for very unrelated things.. and apparently to little avail.

So.. what if you try a different setup, and target people looking for related products, rather than your book? Maybe there are people selling products your suggest in your book, and they have customers who would be excited about your book?

Also, it seems you're getting a lot of false positive search results on fragments of phrases..

Ie, you've listed it as Alpha Bravo Charlie, and then someone has searched for Romeo Delta Bravo... and up comes your listing...

Maybe this implies the search engine is too dumb, or poorly configured, to handle phrases... meaning individual keywords are are preferable?

...that does not sound like an easy goal.

Have you considered a scenario where you charge the recommended price, but if the customer will share your page in a way that can be verified, you discount to the price you wanted to charge anyway?
