Here is a good place to start in making your neighborhood nontoxic.  https://www.instagram.com/nontoxicneighborhoods/
I am just getting started by trying to get herbicides banned at my workplace.  I drove in to work (children's hospital) one day and directly beside the sign cheering our champions for children was a guy with a sprayer loading the lawns with toxic goo.  I emailed the hospital president that day.  Since I have not heard back, it is now time to revisit.

Cris, thank you for trying to do your part, especially at a children's hospital.

I would suggest also talking with the head of their maintenance department as this is the department responsible for taking care of the lawns unless they source it out.  At any rate that is the best place to start.  The department head would know if their employees do the work or if it is sourced out.

Best wishes!

I think it's complicated. "Complaining" is different than "making safer suggestions". Part of decreasing lawn toxicity is getting people comfortable with the idea of a "shag rug" lawn that shades the soil better and is better at out-competing weeds. Also key is helping people see the beauty in multi-species lawns. One way I've done that is to plant crocus bulbs in my lawn by the driveway where people will see them. If it were me, I'd consider printing out Paul's lawn article and taking it in. Show the great benefits to nature of changing how we see "lawns", possibly suggesting one area to start with?
