Well here it is another year and another "get ready to evacuate".  Not much to say, just venting that the Forest Service thinks it is a good time to do controlled burn in the DRIEST WINDEST MONTHS in the west!!!

I wonder what criteria they use? Around here the heath burning is for agricultural reasons - traditional way of rejuvenating heather covered hills. So the fire service is not involved unless there is a problem! We usually have a dry spell in later March/early April and the cut off for burning is April 20th I believe, due to the likely presence then of ground nesting birds.

This one was actually one that did go out of control, and some people had to be evacuated on the other side of the hill as it got quite close to the houses there.
