Are there any planting recommendations for underneath catalpa trees? I feel like this would be a great space for something if I can just figure it out. They just started leafing out this week, probably will be another few weeks before they're fully covered.
So, some plant that prefers full sun up til June, and then heavy shade til sept/October?
Thoughts?

Greens can be started early and do well in shade.

There are many edible shade-loving plants.

Hosta are beautiful, edible, and come in a large variety.

These are shade-loving or shade-tolerant vines, such as Arctic Kiwi, Schisandra, maypop passionfruit, scarlet runner beans, etc.

Here are "10 Edible Plants That Grow In Shade You Must Know About!" from Redemption Permaculture:

From the article: Daylilies, garlic, chives, ginger, parsley, cilantro, lettuce, pawpaws, mint, alpine strawberries, blueberries, and hostas.

That sounds like a perfect spot for annuals like impatiens or begonias, or maybe some small ferns. You could also try foxglove or hellebore for a little more height. You could even group a few flowers together and that should do the trick. Good luck!
