Today I harvested my 1/3 acre of corn in central Africa (photos on Insta here) and am smitten by the textile potential of the husks. I twisted some cordage out of one cob worth of shucks and will definitely be making a lot more of that!

But I need a hat. My current one is in really bad shape. Can anyone help me learn how to do that?

Hello Nathaneal - here's a start:- https://www.facebook.com/foragedfibres/videos/corn-husk-weaving-/482863980027680/
The maker produces a small twined basket, but it will work for a hat - just make it bigger and add a brim.
The twisted cord you show will also work, but use string to blanket stitch each round together (that's non-scary half-hitches worked over a core)
The cord can be as shown. or a single strand which can be twisted as you go.  Hope this helps.

Thanks Jill! I'll give that a shot.

The airline is called "Virgin"? Don't you want a plane to go all the way? This tiny ad will go all the way:
