I had heard about the Kentucky Coffeetree before, but I thought they would only grow in, you know, Kentucky.

But I just read they are drought tolerant so they may be a good candidate for us here in the West.

Anyway, I was wondering what would grow well with it as a companion guild?

Pawpaw and spice bush are the two that spring to mind.
They leaf out late and drop their leaves early, so they give more than the usual sunlight to their understory.
