Last summer we got a one year old pup from a shelter. She is a Border Collie/German Shepherd mix. While I was working in the garden one of our pigs decided to visit my wife on the back deck. My wife yelled for me to help. She didn’t need to. By the time I got there the pup had herded the sow back to her pen. I can’t tell you how proud she was of herself. She is by far the smartest dog I have worked with.
Without a doubt the Border Collie part is major. But, at one point the sow turned on her. The pup said, “We can do this nice, or we can do this ugly.” I suspect that was the German Shepherd part.
Border collies are team players but also full of ideas, I had a hard time keeping up with my border collie mix rescue best friend.
