Does anyone have any interest in an online permaculture hangout/video chat? I was thinking about perhaps getting a few folks together on google hangout or skype to just bullshit about permaculture stuff from time to time. A lot of information goes through these forums and it might be fun to pick a few things that are really interesting and run with it for a few minutes in an informal sort of way. As winter settles in, there's a bit more time for these sorts of things so I figured I'd see who might be up for what.

We all know there are a lot of professional voices here that put out a lot of great info. Paul's podcasts and videos are a great example. There are also a number of great blogs and threads that are packed with stuff to expound on. The forums are capable of transmitting tons of data and traffic as well. I was thinking that archiving some conversations on youtube might be one way to get permaculture to just a few more brains.
So is it worth doing? Just an informal mini-conference from time to time to talk shop. You know there's way more to what you're doing that what you post here on permies. I'm sure there's tons of stuff you've nearly forgotten about but perhaps somebody else might jog your memory. Anyway

I'd like to give it a shot and see what happens. Let me know what you think would work.

I'd give this a shot for sure. Don't know if my computer will support it though.

I'm interested as well. I'll have to see what my connectivity situation will be like after I move (Mid Jan 2014) But will definitely keep you posted. Great idea! Any chance your doing the "book club" as well?

Good idea - I've never used google hangout before.

Love the idea of "bullshitting about permaculture" - a fave activity of mine!

Great! I'll look more into it in the next few days and see what I can come up with. Thanks for the feedback. Does anyone want to suggest a theme or topic?

No real opinions about topics. If its a small enough group perhaps that will flow naturally and after the first session everyone would have a better idea of how to proceed and what to address.

Actually a compare/contrast of climatic and soil conditions would make an interesting first discussion. Maybe along with some discussion of the scale our projects, past experience and ideas of things to tackle in the future. Challenges successfully overcome (perhaps as related to our soil conditions)? Also down for general permaculture bullshitery and wild function stacking imagineering. Eventually getting to a 'how would you approach this or that' sort of problem solving exercise would be great too.

BINGO!

Now we're talking.

Those are all great ideas. Now... since I'm a newbie to the hangouts thing I'll suspect that there's going to be some issues. We'll have to deal with that as it comes. I know that things tend to work better if you have headphones to wear during conversations. This helps avoid feedback and noise disturbances. Going through the process seems rather straight forward so I should be able to post a link here for people to join.

I'd like to try this out later today if possible. What time would be best? I'm on the east coast of the US so please leave your response in EST.
I'll try to schedule it ahead of time and post a link here or through PM so that others can join in too. Also I'll share a link for folks that want to watch/listen but don't wish to participate. I hope that this works.

If anyone has time to help me test it before time, I'm up for that too. Just PM me and we'll see if we can work out the kinks before "show time".

Thanks

I too have never used google hangouts. Actually, I just got a webcam like 3 weeks ago and have thus far not been able to make the video and audio work together, though both work separately. Now that I've got a reason too I'll get on the horn with logitech or whoever. I'm game whenever but do like to plan ahead a little bit so as to collect my thoughts and ready reference material when necessary. I'll check out this google hang out thing between now and then and make sure I'm not to Luddintine to figure out how it works.

Would Monday evening 7 pm EST work for those interested?
