Hello...new to the forum, second year of chickens, a variety of layers including Americana, Rhode Island Reds, Black Morans and one or two others. Currently, we are canning Mayhaw jelly, and would like to know if we can feed the pulp to our chickens, who will pretty much eat whatever is set before them... Thank you in advance for your help...
If you are canning mayhaws, you must be close to Georgia, right? I doubt if any of the usual resources, like Backyard chickens is going to get that specific. I have given mine pulpy fruit like jelly palm fruit and gingko fruits, and they seemed to do all right. But the second time I tried the ginkgo fruits, they had had enough -- even chickens wise up to the stink of those things.
I feed mine about any thing that wont eat them first
we don't have a problem with lack of water we have a problem with mismanagement
beavers the original permies farmers
If there is no one around to smell you ,do you really stink!
I throw anything and everything to the chickens. But I do make sure they have choices and then note what they will not eat. For example mine will not eat broccoli stalks. Even the things they don't eat they will usually scratch into the ground.

About the only thing I avoid giving to chickens is anything with a significant amount of mold. When I was feeding a flock of layers comparatively mainstream feed (ground corn with protein supplement), I found out more than once the hard way that if that feed got moist and the least bit moldy, the hens would quit laying until I changed it out.
If they don't like it as is, you could create a compost with some animal manure and carbon and then let them eat through that - yummy insects, fungi and all kinds of good stuff. I am sure they will love you for that.
