Best Angle Grinder for Home Projects

I researched about the best angle grinder for the past few days because I need one for some home projects and metal cutting work. I read reviews on the New York Times, Consumer Reports, and Popular Mechanics, and they are marking these two as best:

However, I am having trouble deciding which one would best suit my needs and need your expert advice. I plan to use it for cutting metal, grinding, polishing, and occasional masonry work. I’m looking for something durable, powerful, and comfortable to handle for longer use.

So which one should I buy? Any recommendation will be appreciated.

I used to be a DeWalt guy and still have a bunch of their tools that I'm happy with, but I had such an insanely negative experience with Cub Cadet and their support that I've decided not to purchase anything ever again made by the Stanley Black & Decker family of companies. So probably both tools are fine, but I'd go with Milwaukee. But what I'd really base it on is what system of batteries that I wanted to use. I'd consider Greenworks for that purpose, though I don't yet have any tools using the little batteries..

Angle grinders are something of an odd ball in my tool collection.

I generally recommend people who purchase battery based tools to stick with one brand in order to best take advantage of a single source of batteries instead of having a bunch of miscellaneous chargers laying around. HOWEVER, with angle grinders, consider how much use it is going to get. If you are going to be using it quite a bit, I lean towards getting a corded version so I don't experience power drop off and limited runtime.

I utilize Ryobi 18v tools so I would purchase their version of an angle grinder due to that. Some millwrights that I know swear by Metabo grinders.

I use Makita tools.
Corded and cordless.
I have a cordless side grinder and I love it, except... grinders work hard and go through batteries fast!
I have plenty of batteries and chargers, but I will use my corded grinders if I have a lot of cutting with a skinny wheel to do.
Quick jobs are always done cordless.

I am a Makita person. I agree that once you go with batteries by one manufacturer stick with them until they screw you over like Hack and Wrecker did to Christopher. Then find out what's better and try that. If you have no battery tools yet then I would go with the Milwaukee.

Timothy also makes a good point that corded might be the way to go if you don't need cordless for some reason. My angle grinder is a corded Makita that I've had since before they made a cordless. It's a beast and I have not been able to justify a cordless version for how much use it gets. Of course I want one anyways.

In my case the amount of expected use came into play. I normally use DeWalt and Makita. The angle grinder was a tool I expected minimal use from. I bought cheap and am glad I did. I last time I used it was 5 years ago.

I grind a lot: bricks, stone, metal and occasionally wood. I use angle grinder more than any other power tool. For over 12 years I have been using the same corded 4.5" Metabo, made in Germany. One time the switch got stuck, so I didassembled the machine and cleaned it and it keeps working. If I had to purchase a cordless grinder I would pick Makita, because they have a car battery charger that I could directly connect to my 24 V panels in my off-grid setup.
