SUV hatch not working.

I understand this is not new info for many here, but it may help someone. After the latest ice storm, the hatch on my 2017 Murano stopped working.  Not even a click when I pushed the button.  I assumed it was a fuse, but I was too lazy to hunt through the 3 fuse panels to find the right fuse. So I went for the easy target first. I disconnected the negative terminal on the battery for an hour.   The hatch works perfectly.   Now I have to reset the clock.

I’m surprised! I expected it to be that the non-click was the result of a cable mechanism immediately breaking because its servo motor, or connection to same, was so brittle and frozen. Glad it was as simple as a disconnect-reconnect! In my mind Nissan, and the Murano in particular, is notorious for being over-engineered.

I knew about the Murano’s rep before I bought it.  To make it worse, mine is  a Platinum… which means it has every toy.  My problem is I bought it new at $10,000 under sticker.  I used it for work traveling around the country, so I was reimbursed for everything I paid for it plus  gas, insurance, etc.  At 150,000 miles, I am waiting for the CVT to give up.   My only debate is if I will be better off trading it in or driving it til it drops. If it was a regular transmission, I would continue to drive it.  With the rep of the Nissan CVT, I am not so sure.  The one positive here is that a huge % of those miles were on the interstate, so I suspect the transmission may have a little less wear.

Though it suggests a bigger problem -- our vehicles are now computers with wheels. So many problems are software problems. The first thing you do is reboot, then connect to the Internet, check for updates, run a virus scan ... hoo boy.

It is much more scary.  I went out to the car to reset the clock.  The car had taken care of that. It had also done a number of other updates. In fact, the only info lost were my old destinations on the Navigation.

I'm waiting for the day when my car will actually "see" that I'm walking towards it with a stiff and sore back.....and it adjusts the lumbar support accordingly before I even get in!  :-)
