What is cube steak anyway?

I have acquired a few cuts of cube steak that have been sitting in my freeze and I'm getting the itch to try cooking them. I have childhood memories of a tough and chewy steak but I'm sure there must be better ways of utilizing the cut.

Cubed Steak

How do you utilize cube steak and do you have any good recipes to try?

Thanks!
