I was just rereading Ianto Evans RMH Book the latest edition (I have your manuscript and video too) and I was wondering if Ernie is still more inclined towards the half barrel. If I go that route do you have any suggestions, pros and cons? Thanks much.

A brick transition area worked good for me and was easy to build. Cob ash pit at the bottom and smooth cob around the walls leading into the 8" horizontal pipe. Nothing wrong with using a barrel either. I had lots of brick so thats what I used.
