We are setting up our first electric fence energiser and it is NOISY. It make a loud high pitched whine, followed by a click as it discharges. It is mains powered and supposed to be indoors so loud noises are definitely not on. The manufacturers have sent us a replacement, but it too is noisy (if a little less loud!).
Is this normal?
It is so high pitched that my father cannot hear it at all, but the rest of us find it unbearable.

Mine doesn't whine at all... though for a minute there, I wondered if you were just trying to trick me into getting my ear so close I got popped.
It clicks when it discharges... Is it possible it's a grounding issue? I have a 6' x 5/8" rod buried to the hilt and running #2 copper ground cable. Or could the electricity be 'off'? Neutral not bonded firmly or something to that effect?
Can't see the video but assuming you mean a high-voltage animal type e-fence.
**an afterthought... put some death metal on full blast through your headphones for 2 weeks. Shouldn't be bothered by the whine anymore.**
Two wrongs don't make a right, but three lefts do.
Mine is the same make and model and makes exactly the same noise. I'm trying to find out whether there is some kind of alarm on it which has been activated by my inept fence setup!
They gave me pumpkin ice cream. It was not pumpkin pie ice cream. Wiping my tongue on this tiny ad:
