This seemed to be as good a place to ask this question as any without doing an extensive search of the forums ...

What are the differences, advantages to using clay firebricks vs. ceramic firebricks, if any, for a RMH?

Ceramic is fired clay, so I'm not sure what you think you mean by this distinction. If it is "firebrick", that implies a particular kind of clay which has little expansion with heat differences, as well as being able to tolerate especially high temperatures (well over 2000F) without distortion.

Dan, check out post #16 by Erica Wisner in the following thread. IMHO it's a must read being somewhat of an RMH primer. E.W. covers the various brick types and their applications and uses in RMH construction:

Mega, MEGA helpful, Byron Campbell. You deserve TWO apples for this share.

I was experiencing the vagaries that Erica describes in her post. Most thankful for what Erica wrote as it has advanced my knowledge in a fraction of the time it would have taken me finding people to talk to. Notwithstanding the largely controlled drama that may appear from time to time here, these threads are invaluable.

Dan - Note that Erica is "she"... I don't think she or Ernie would appreciate her being described as "he"

And yes, Erica always seems to post thoroughly complete and useful information, in a calm and reasonable voice.
