Whoa, great list Miles!!

I know Jesse made a video about free fruit in the area last year. Folks in Missoula are keen to have their unused fruit picked so that black bear are not learning to come to their house for food. Plus, Evan, Kai and Fred (plus others? so sorry if I missed others who were in on this!) picked loads of apricots last summer, and then loads of cherries this summer at a place nearby that wasn't using the fruit.

In fact, Kai planted so many of the apricot pits on the lab, and SO many sprouted, that we have taken to calling that area, 'Kai's apricot forest.'

Janet posted on Facebook and Instagram that she found free irises from Craigslist, (and she shared them around - thanks Janet!), so I think she's watching, to be sure.

Paul and I sooo want chickens here, so that free flock of reds is enticing, but our paddocks still aren't done yet, darn it!

Jocelyn's right.  There's a lot of free fruit in Missoula.

My wife and I are serious about cider and we gathered twelve volume bushels (full fruit boxes) of apples in half a day on Sunday.  I estimate we have enough for about 25 gallons of cider this year.  I also have five gallons of chokecherry wine brewing right now and do know where there are more bushes right now.

Jocelyn, would you be interested in Icelandic chickens in the future?  I had two dozen eggs shipped out today to incubate.  I'm sure we could work something out.

Something I would be interested in is sharing an apple press.  MUD and Summer Sun in Missoula have them for rent, but I might buy one relatively soon.

Just hit up town yesterday. Bagged loads of apricots apples plums and pears. I mostly wanted the seeds so now I have the luxury problem of to much food ! Hopefully someone wants to make jam im pretty busy building after all.

As far as the chickens go I was thinking someone could just butcher them rather than care for a flock without being ready. Might be good for the ants to have chicken soup this winter?

I know you guys are busy but if someone gets to town they could get some free apples!

Fred and the boots have been gathering apples almost every weekend! And they've used the cider press at MUD, too - left some cider fresh, and have canned some cider, too. Huge bounties of apples!!

We'd love to have livestock cages at some point, though would prefer no plywood if we can help it. No urgent need for that size wire cage at the moment, either.
