Just joined permies.com today. I decided it was time to quit lurking as I have done for several years.
I have learned so much from this site and check in a few times a week.

Enjoy the beautiful fall...there is much to do before winter arrives.

It is a pretty big state, Tom.

I'm in in the Northwest Lower with strong ties to the Upper Peninsula.

Roughly, where are YOU?

What are you about?

Much to do?  Oh boy, it that ever true.

I am 40 miles south of Cadillac and 50 miles north of Grand Rapids, right off US131.
What am I about? Wow, that is a good question. I am about too many things, Always curious about the how and why of things.
Especially into my family, all things green and growing, organic gardening, reading, food preservation, plant propagation, and simple, quiet living, just to name a very few.

A little south of Big Rapids?  Maybe the Stanwood area?

Nice country.  I used to have cousins farming in the area.

How much land are you working with?  What forest type do you find there?  Oak?

And you have all of that federal forest land just to your west.

Did you grow up in the area or move there?  Does it look like long-term home?

Are there many like you there ... homesteading?

Sorry for all the questions.  I'm always intensely curious about good country folks like you.  Don't be shy about telling your story.

As a fellow plant propagator, I'm curious whether you consider yourself a nurseryman.  Have a greenhouse?  Is plant propagation part of a sustaining business?

Hello sounds as if we are somewhere in the same vicinity. Welcome, I'm new here to after being a silent lurker.
We are in the Mecosta area just a bit east of stanwood, been all over the area from Morley, Stanwood, now out here and soon to be in the move again.

Hello, T Boon (and everyone else!). Welcome to our beautiful area of Mecosta County. I am in Big Rapids. I, too, am a serious lurker here but rarely submit posts as others seem to have the good stuff covered.
Spring is in full bloom, the garden chores are beckoning and I have good seed crying out to be planted.  Let us all hope for a bumper crop of veggies and fruits this year and every year. Happy gardening to all!

Hello and thank you for the welcome. You wouldn't happen to know anyone in the area that could help a family out would you?

Greetings, Aimee, Jason, Alex & Wes! Good to hear from you.
When did you move onto your place?

This was the craziest April I can recall. Maybe winter is finally over?
Getting some sunshine today...makes me want to start digging in the dirt.

Welcome! And best of luck to you!

Hey everyone! Love the enthusiasm & super excited I have found a group that shares my love of gardening. I recently found this new, bad ass Interactive Planting Zone map and want to share it with the rest of you!

https://gilmour.com/planting-zones-hardiness-map

I love this new platform and I am certain you & your fellow gardeners will love it as well. Please check it out and share as you wish!

ENJOY!

Caroline
