First egg!!

I haven't figured out which one yet, but one of our hens laid the first egg today!!  Just sharing the joy.  

Stats: the hens are almost exactly 23 weeks old, light brown, perfectly formed, nearly perfectly clean, smallish egg.  

I'm waiting a few days to see if any more are forthcoming before frying it up.  We're a family of five, so one small egg won't go far!

It's thrilling indeed,my daughter ate our first egg-and the second and third.
Normally she won't eat a whole egg, but when it's from a chicken she named,she can't get enough.

Congratulations on the egg! We're still waiting on our chicken to lay her first egg (she's about 20 weeks old, I think). I'm really hoping she'll make colorful eggs (she's an Easter Egger). Our ducks all lay white eggs except for one teal egg. I'd love for more colorful eggs--even brown would be fun!

Nicole, I hope it's soon for you!  We've gotten one egg per day so far (for a total of three), but I'm betting we'll skip tomorrow.  We've determined it's one of our New Hampshire Reds, "Tiger."  I tried so hard to keep them from naming them, but I failed.  And I've also learned that if they're out, she'll go back to the coop to lay.  Yay!  I was worried about that.
